The September 2009 issue highlights a variety of teaching issues of importance to university-level education. The articles in this issue include 1) an example of how a distinguished senior faculty member has written a statement of his Teaching Philosophy; 2) a statement of the importance a senior faculty member attaches to the value of advising and mentoring students; and 3) a Faculty "Forum" - contributions by faculty about "How Does Teaching Improve Your Research?". In addition, there is an account of the 2009 University Awards Ceremony at which faculty and graduate students from Brown and RISD were recognized for their commitment to undergraduate and graduate education. Not least, there is information on new Sheridan Center programs and resources to support the pedagogy and ongoing professional development of the Brown teaching community.
