This issue of The Teaching Exchange features of articles on two major topics: developing a reflective teaching practice by RISD professor, Paul Sproll and current challenges to faculty and graduate student mentoring in higher education by Professor Lundy Braun (Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, Africana Studies, and Environmental Studies). In addition, the "Faculty Forum" features a "novel" approach to pedagogy by Professor Harold Roth (Religious Studies). "Teaching a First Year Seminar" describes some of the recommendations of those faculty who have led a first year seminar. Professional development for graduate students is a major focus for the Sheridan Center. The article by Charlotte Biltekoff describes some of the Center's support services, including helping faculty and graduate students prepare and fine-tune their presentation skills, whether for conferences or lectures. We hope these articles will inspire discussion and debate among colleagues across campus and we welcome contributions from faculty and graduate students in future issues of the Teaching Exchange.
