Family Football Day, October 25

Faculty, Staff, and their families are invited to join President Simmons as Brown takes on Cornell on Saturday, October 25. Kickoff is at 12:30 p.m., but the food and fun starts at 11:00 a.m. Tickets to the game will be free of charge with a valid Brown ID. The Faculty Executive Committee, Medical Faculty Executive Committee, and Staff Advisory Committee encourage you to mark your calendars and join us as we cheer our team to victory. Look for details in the coming weeks.

 

Nominate a colleague to SAC

Thank you to all Brown University members who nominated a colleague to SAC. Serving on SAC is an excellent opportunity for professional development and collaboration across departments, and is a chance to be involved in the Brown community. SAC is comprised of staff across diverse grade levels, job types, and personal backgrounds.

All nominations were due Friday, October 3.

 

Volunteer Opportunties

Public Square Tuesday” in Kennedy Plaza – a weekly event where local non-profit agencies present volunteer opportunities. Please see below for more information or visit the website http://www.kennedyplaza.org/

"Each week, non-profit agencies from Rhode Island and beyond gather to present their missions with an interactive approach in a fun, urban setting. Running every Tuesday from 11am – 3:30pm through September on the sidewalk along Burnside Park, a different service theme is featured each week. From the arts and humanities to fitness and the environment, Public Square Tuesday plays host to a tremendous variety of action. "

Saturday, 9/6, 1-4 pm -- Walking Tours of Providence led by Swearer Center staff, students, and community partners. Students primarily join, but we invite any/all members of the Brown community (we had one staff person join us last year) and will be touring a range of neighborhoods around the city.

Wednesday, 9/10, 7-9 pm at Sayles Hall -- Community Service Opportunities Fair, where we bring in dozens of community agencies for staff and students to meet and learn about their work and volunteer opportunities.

 

SAC Co-Chair Announced

The President´s Staff Advisory Committee (SAC) is pleased to announce that Amy Umstadter, Assistant Director of Stewardship & Events in Bio-Med Development, has been selected as Co-Chair of SAC. She will assume the role of Co-Chair with Karen Leonard from now through December and will begin serving as Chair in January 2009. We are positive that Amy's dedication to the committee and to staff at Brown will lead to exciting endeavors in the year ahead.

Family Skate -- 01/06/08

SAC held its first annual family skate event on Sunday, January 6, 2008 from 2 - 4 p.m. at Meehan Auditorium. All staff, faculty, and their families were invited to attend. Refreshments were served. There was a "safe skate" set-up for children.

Thanks to Athletics for generously giving SAC 100 tickets to distribute for the men's ice hockey game against Harvard on Friday, February 1 at 7:00 PM. (updated 1/08)

 

Holiday Bazaar Donations

Thanks to everyone who donated items during Brown's annual Holiday Bazaar and Dessert Social to help those in need. SAC collected over 450 pounds of non-perishable foods for the RI Community Food Bank, and two HUGE bags of new adult and children’s socks and underwear to benefit Crossroads RI and the Women’s Center of RI.

Slavery and Justice: Brown Responds
