Volunteer Opportunities

Brown Gives

In an effort to engage Brown staff members in serving the Rhode Island community, the President’s Staff Advisory Committee (SAC) has created Brown Gives. For this initiative, SAC organizes opportunities for Brown staff members (and their families) to volunteer for activities/organizations in the areas of education, health services, and food distribution. Service projects vary in terms of day, time, and type of activity, so we hope there is something for everyone. These activities are also a great opportunity to meet and network with other people from Brown!

Some Brown Gives activites are coordinated through training.brown.edu, others through our partnership with Serve RI.

The Staff Advisory Committee has organized another “Brown Gives” Volunteer Opportunity. Join us on Saturday, November 28, 2009 to help the JAYCEES assemble and distribute boxes for toys, games and appropriate gifts from toddlers to teenagers as part of the Toys for Tots annual event. Volunteers are welcome from 10am to Noon at the West Warwick Senior & Community Center located at 145 Washington Street, West Warwick.

This opportunity is open to Brown Staff, their families and children ages 13 and up. To volunteer and register for this opportunity visit training.brown.edu.

If you volunteer on November 28th you will be given the opportunity to join the Jaycees in December for a presentation at the Warwick Mall with Bob Venturini & the RI National Guard on cable television - a fun time for a great cause!

RI Community Food Bank (On Campus Food Drive)

Some great news...The food drive generated enough donations for the food bank to distribute 3300 healthy meals!

Hasbro Children's Hospital Walk-a-thon

“I had a blast…never knew I could get such a workout handing out T-shirts…we should all get tiaras!”

Magaziner Farm; Franklin Farm; St. John Vianney Church Farm - Farm Chores

We'd like to personally thank you...The Community Farm program is successful because of individuals like you, who selflessly give their time and energy to help our mission of providing food to Rhode Islanders in need. - RI Community Food Bank

School One - Fence Painting

By the time everyone left School One in Providence, a 200 foot stockade fence had a coat of weatherproofing, the support poles for a chain link fence had a new coat of rust-proof paint, and the dark room was pitch black!! Thank you for your efforts! - Doreen Burgers

I came in this morning to the sun sparkling on our fences and a (relatively) non-smelly dark room. You've given us all a major lift and we really appreciate your dedication to the community. Please feel free to come by the school at any time when school is in session to meet the students and staff who benefit from your work. I hope our paths cross again soon!
