Awards and Recognition

Students make significant and lasting impacts on Brown. Each year, various offices solicit nominations for awards to recognize the efforts of students. This coordinated listing is provided for your convenience. Most of the following awards are presented annually at the Student Leadership Recognition Ceremony and Reception in May.

The 2009 Student Leadership Recognition Ceremony and Reception took place on Wednesday, May 6 at 5:30 PM in Peterutti Lounge.

Most awards are also presented at separate ceremonies over Commencement and Reunion Weekend.

Joslin Awards for Student Leadership and Involvement

Given each year by the Division of Campus Life and Student Services, the Joslin Awards recognize no more than ten graduating seniors who have made significant contributions to the University through their leadership and service. Student Leader Citations

The Student Activities Office gives the Citations to recognize accomplishment in the context of student organizations over the past year. Individuals, groups, and events may be nominated. Asian/Asian American Alumni Alliance Community Contribution Award

Recognizes an Asian/Asian American graduating senior who has made significant contributions to the quality of life for Asian/Asian American Brown students and/or has made significant contributions to the development of the Asian/Asian American community at Brown. Barker and Tow Service Prizes

The Derek Canfield Barker Prize recognizes two juniors who are athletes, have displayed leadership and have been active in community service. The Yat K. Tow Prize recognizes an academically strong junior, graduating senior, or graduate student who has completed community service and/or academic work in the area of international understanding. These awards are coordinated by the Swearer Center for Public Service.

Interfaith Student Leadership Awards

Nominations are solicited each spring by the Office of the Chaplains and Religious Life for the . The Interfaith Leadership Award honors a graduating senior who has demonstrated interfaith leadership both on campus and beyond. The Levi Adams Citation honors a senior in the College for distinction and service in the leadership of a campus based religious organization, project, or initiative. The President James Manning Medal is awarded to a graduating student whose pursuit of excellence in the study and practice of religion is exemplary. LGBTQ Leadership Award

Each year, this Award is given by the LGBTQ Resource Center in recognition of a graduating senior (May or December) who has positively affected lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning life during her/his undergraduate years at Brown.
