David Roach
When Dave Roach became the 13th athletic director in Brown History five
years ago, he returned to the University where he had spent eight years
as a successful women's swimming coach. While at Brown, Roach took the
Bears into the National spotlight. Inheriting the last place team in the Ivy
League, Roach lead the team to conference champions in 1983, 1984, and 1985.
During his time at Brown, he left a record of 76-6-1. In 1986 Roach left Brown
to coach at University of Tennesee, where the team won 85% of their meets
in the span of 4 years. He also impoved the national standings from 39th to
4th at Division 1, NCAA's.
As Athletic Director, Roach oversees the Physical Education, and Department of Athletics at
the University. He has the responsiblity of hiring and supervising over 100
athletic department employees, including 34 varsity sports teams. During his
time as Athletic Director, Brown teams have captured 21 Ivy League
Championships, made eight NCAA Tournament appearances and won three
National Championships.
Roach, 45, is a native of Waterbury, Connecticut. He attended Springfield
College in Springfield, Mass, where he earned both a Bachelor of Arts degree
(1971) and a Master of Science degree in Physical Education (1972).
