Head Coach
Matt Kredich
Matt Kredich, the head coach of the Brown Women's Swimming Team, just
finished his fourth season by claiming the 1996 Eastern Championships. An
enthusiastic and inspirational leader, Kredich's Brown teams have been
characterized by consistent improvement over the past 4 years. Brown has
gone from fifth (1992) fo first (1996) at the Eastern Women's Swimming
League Championships under the direction of the 1996 coach of the year.
Kredich's teams have been marked by consistent improvement individually
and as a group.
A 1988 graduate of Duke University, Kredich was named head coach of the
Brown Women's Swimming and Diving team in April, 1992. He came to
Brown from Harvard University where he spent the 1991-1992 season as
assistant coach of the Crimson men's team, helping them to their first Eastern
Championship in 3 years. No stranger to coaching women's
teams, Kredich also served as Assistant Women's Swim Coach at Stanford
(1990-91), and was a graduate assistant coach for the men and women's teams
at Duke (1989-90). His coaching experience also includes postions with the
Mass. Bay Marlins' Swim Club (Cambridge, Mass.) and the Los Altos
Mountain View Aquatic Club (Los Altos, Calif.).
Kredich recieved a bachelor of arts degree in biology from Duke in 1988 and
recieved his master of arts degree in teaching from Duke in 1990. A standout
backstroker for the Blue Devils, Kredich captained the team his senior year
and was a seven-time U.S. national qualifier.
Assistant Coach
Jennifer Boyd
Jennifer Boyd '90, is beginning her second year as assistant coach for the Brown Women's Swimming team. One of the most decorated athletes in Brown history, Boyd has brought world class swimming knowledge,
experience, and expertise to the swimming and diving program.
Boyd, an NCAA All-American in 1990, owns Brown and Ivy-League records in the 50 free, 100 free, and 100 Butterfly,
and was a part of all 5 school relay records. She placed 2nd at the 1990
NCAA's in the 50 and 100 freestyles and 5th in the 100 Butterfly. She was a
member of the US national team in 1983-85, 1990 and 1991. Jennifer has
coached with the Blue Fin Swim Team in San Diego, Calif. and with the UC
San Diego men's and women's teams as well.
Jennifer graduated from the Massage Institute of New England in Feb. 1994.
She is a Nationally Certified Massage Therapist and member of the American
Massage Therapy Association.
Jennifer began working with the team at the 1995 Eastern Championships
when she was the team massage therapist.
Diving Coach
Dave Sias
Veteran diving coach Dave Sias finished his 23rd year at the helm of
the men's and women's diving program. Under his direction, Brown diving
has consistently been on the top programs in the East. In recognition of his
contribution to the Bears' women's swim program in 1992-93, he was
honored with the team's coveted Florence Filipo Award. Since joining the
coaching staff of Brown University in 1973, Sias has helped Brown divers
qualify, and place in, both Division I and II NCAA, with a 1978 graduate Noel
Keefer achieving All-American honors.
Over the past two decades, Dave also has been involved with developing age
group divers in the New England Area. Several of them have claimed state
and high school championships, as well as qualifying for Junior Nationals.
A 1965 graduate of Springfield College, Sias was a standout college diver,
earning All-American honors and finishing runner-up in the New England
Collegiate Championships. After graduation, he spent two years as diving
coach at New Mexico State University where he earned his masters in
education.
