About Brown University

Ivy League and is a coeducational institution that is known for having one of the most flexible curriculum in the nation.

Founded in 1876 as Rhode Island College, the nation's seventh and New England's third oldest college, the school moved to Providence in 1770 and its name was changed to Brown University in order to recognize the contributions of Nicholas Brown. Women were first admitted in 1881 when the Women's college at Brown University was established.

The faculty at Brown is one of the finest in the world where the most distingushed professors teach undergraduates. The entire faculty make an effort to keep its' commitment toward the education of the undergraduate.

Brown Students come from all 50 states and 65 foreign countries and have a choice of 70 academic majors in the humanities, arts and sciences. Students have the opportunity to get involved in more than 240 student activites, on and off campus, and develop talents in an atmosphere where creativity and encouragement are stressed.

Success is shown by the excellent placement rates; business (100%), law (96%), and medical schools (91%). This places Brown as one of the top American colleges. Overall the Graduate School acceptance rate is 90%, with over 250 of the top business firms interviewing on campus.
