About the Team

General Info

The Brown University Club Ice Hockey team plays in Division II of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA), which consists of over 150 teams nationwide. We play teams in the northeast and New England region, most of which are also members of the ACHA.

We are a student-run organization with funding provided by Brown University and our sponsors. Students handle all aspects of the team including coaching, practices, game scheduling and travel arrangements.

Practices and home games are played in the beautiful Meehan Auditorium, the same facilities used by the men's and women's varsity hockey teams. Away games distances range from a couple miles to overnight trips and in both cases team transportation is provided. For overnight trips, hotel accomodations are also provided.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is club hockey?

Club hockey is full contact ice hockey by NCAA rules. It is similar to varsity hockey in that we travel to play teams from other schools, though not at the same skill level and with much less of a time commitment.

What is the skill level of the players?

Most of the players on the team have played hockey at the high school level or higher.

When are the practices/games?

We usually practice once a week and have 1-2 games per week. Practices are midweek (typically at night), and games are usually on the weekend.

How much of a time commitment is the team?

This team is intended to be fun and the time requirements are generally minimal. We are all students and understand that academics come first.

How much does it cost?

Dues vary from year to year, but because we are funded by the university and our sponsors, they are much less than a typical travel hockey team.
