The intramrual department is always in search for that energic, responsible individual whom takes pride in their work.The Intramural Department hires students as game officials and supervisors throughout the year. Title: Sports Official
Reports To: Sport Supervisor
Location: Athletic Sports Complex & Fields
Pay Rate: $8.00/hour
Shift Times: Depending on the sport, games are scheduled anywhere between 4:00pm - Midnight Monday - Thursday; between Noon - 7:00pm on Saturdays; and between Noon - 10:00pm on Sundays.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Intramural Official shall, to the best of his/her ability, officiate and /or keep accurate records and score of those contests sponsored by the Intramural Department, in accordance with the rules of the sport and the regulations of the department. The official is charged with the responsibility of maintaining orderly conduct on the court or field, to which he/she is assigned, and will perform other duties as outlined below.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend all clinics and meetings, when asked to do so.
  • Arrive at the court/field 15 minutes prior to scheduled game time.
  • Obtain necessary equipment and score sheets 15 minutes prior to game time; officials will be monetarily responsible for equipment he/she has been issued, and must return that equipment at the conclusion of each session.
  • Fulfill schedule obligations.
  • Insure that game equipment functions properly and that games are played under safe conditions; report the need for facility or equipment repairs to their Sport Supervisor.
  • Penalize, in accordance with the rules of the sport and the regulations of the department, any unsportsmanlike conduct of players, captains, or fans.
  • Be attentive at all times; do not allow friends to visit or distract you while you work.
  • Locate team captains and sign in participants when asked to do so.
  • Report for reassignment in the event of forfeited or canceled games.
  • Frequently review the material in the Intramural Guidelines and Rules.
  • Have thorough knowledge of the Intramural Policies and Procedures and of the Athletic department.
    Attempt to resolve problems if possible, receive any requests for protest and document them, then immediately contact the Intramural Coordinator.
  • Report any misuse of the facility or equipment, or any discipline problems from participants or spectators, to the Site Supervisor immediately; follow up with a completed incident report form.
  • Carry out the Emergency Action Plan of the department. Notify the Site Supervisor in the event of an accident. Remain with the injured party until relieved; follow up with a completed injury report form.
  • Strive to maintain positive public relations; answer questions of participants, or direct them to someone who will be able to help them.

Title: Sport Supervisor
Reports To: Intramural Coordinator & Student Coordinator
Location: Athletic Sports Complex & Fields
Pay Rate: $8.25-8.75/hour
Shift Times: Depending on the sport, games are scheduled anywhere between 4:00pm - Midnight Monday - Thursday; between Noon - 5:00pm on Saturdays; and between Noon - 10:00pm on Sundays.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Intramural Sports Supervisor reports to the Intramural Coordinator and shall assist with the supervision and administration of the Intramural Sports Program. This person will be responsible for the execution of intramural events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Student must have effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexible work schedule to meet program needs
  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification - may be obtained upon hire date (on individuals time)

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Prefer to hire students who have strong knowledge of Intramural Sports
  • Experience working with customer service industry and knowledge of officiating
  • Previous management/supervisory experience

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Responsible for communication with Intramural Coordinator on potential or present problems, concerns, needs and sharing suggestions and ideas with the support staff.
  • Assist with the organization and administration of the leagues and tournaments through their daily responsibilities.
  • Responsible for knowing events and activities held in the Athletic Center during scheduled work shifts
  • Supervise fellow employees and hold them accountable for their job duties.
  • Responsible for promoting University recreation through their assistance with officials training, captains meetings, league, tournament and special events promotions.
  • Responsible for attending all meetings scheduled by the Intramural Coordinator
  • Assist with the equipment set up and take down during work shifts.
  • Responsible for enforcing all intramural rules and policies with the participants.
  • Responsible for developing a good rapport and strong communication between yourself, fellow employees, the Intramural Coordinator and the participants.
  • Take pride in the Brown University Intramural Program, maintain a positive, cooperative, customer service oriented attitude and contribute to a successful program.
