The first day ended on a heartbreaking 17-16 loss to Ohio State, where Brown saw their 8-4 halftime lead diminished quickly in the second half. The game was tied at 10, but from there it remained close, until Brown went up 16-15, only to lose the next two points. Lesson learned, on Saturday, Brown opened up an 8-4 lead on 8th seeded North Carolina at the half, but kept the intensity all the way through. Even playing without captain Mike Vandenberg '08 for the entire game, who was out with a strained hamstring, Brown went on to win, 15-11. Wisconsin beat Stanford in the semis, Colorado took care of Florida in the other semis, and Wisconsin beat Colorado 15-7 to win the 2007 National Championship! Tuesday, May 22 The seedings have been out, and Brown got the #10 seed at Nationals! That means that in pool play on Friday, we will play 3rd seeded Colorado at 11 am, 6th seeded Texas at 1:30 pm, and then 15th seeded Ohio State at 4:30. Here is information about Nationals, with times, locations, and brackets. In addition, the 2007 player profiles are now complete. You can find those in the Roster section of the website. We look forward to seeing you all at Nationals this weekend! Go B-Mo! Thursday, May 10 Check out the latest newsletter for a recap of Regionals and a player profile on Colin! Monday, May 7 New England Regional Champs! Brown beat Bowdoin 15-4, UMass 15-6, Harvard 15-7, and Williams 15-7 in the finals this weekend to secure the #1 bid out of New England and a spot at Nationals in Columbus, OH. Williams beat Dartmouth, 15-11, in the second place game for the other NE bid. Full results here. All the seniors stepped up and had huge weekends. Colin Mahoney '07 took over games with his speed, height, and athleticism. Ben Saper '07 played almost every single point of the weekend, caught a bunch of deep throws in the finals for goals, and threw another to C-Mo streaking deep. Jarrod Lynn '05 GS '07 played with intensity all weekend, caught a bunch of goals, and made some sick layout D's in his final tourney as an unmarried man. And Dan Goldberg '07 had highlight reel material all weekend, sprinting for goal-scoring cone cuts all weekend, including the final one in the championship. Thanks to all the parents and supporters who cheered us on this weekend! We had the best turnout of the season and the sidelines were terrific every game. Nationals will take place May 25th-27th and early projections show Brown between an 11th and 13th seed. Thursday, May 3 On Saturday, we will be playing in Queeche, VT. On Sunday, we will be playing in Hanover, NH. Here are directions to the Queeche Fields and the Hanover Fields (a.k.a Sachem). Seedings are final. Brackets are final. Times are almost final, but games will definitely be starting at 9 AM on both days. Check here for all that information. Monday, April 30 The latest newsletter is up - all those interested in Regionals or coming to watch us play next weekend should take a look! Monday, April 23 Sunday of Sectionals was rescheduled for yesterday, and Brownian Motion defeated Connecticut College in the semifinals and Wesleyan in the finals to win. P-Funk (Brown-B) fought back to take Roger Williams to double game-point, with the winner assured of a top four finish and a bid to Regionals. But, P-Funk lost in a heartbreaker and then lost to Yale, who clinched the fifth and final bid to Regionals. Full game results are here. Also, check out the latest newsletter - on Sectionals and a profile of Pete Kalmakis '10. Sunday, April 15 Day 2 of Sectionals has been postponed due to rain. The early thought is that it will take place two weeks from now. B-Mo faces Conn. College in the semifinals, while Brown-B takes on WPI in the second-place bracket. The results so far are now up. Friday, April 13 Check out Jarrod's latest newsletter - a summary of Yale Cup, a preview of Sectionals, and a player profile on Dan Goldberg '07. This weekend is Sectionals at the University of Rhode Island. The fields are at 300 Plains Rd, on the west end of campus, past the Ryan Center. Here is Brown's game schedule: Saturday @ 10:45 vs. Clark U., @ 12:30 vs. Hartford, @ 2:15 vs. PC, @ 4 vs. WPI. The semifinals then take place @ 9 on Sunday morning, and the finals take place @ 2. We'd love to see some hometown fans out there! For more info, check out the South New England Open Sectionals tourney website. Tuesday, April 10 Who knew it would be so cold and windy in New England by April? Brownian Motion went 6-1 at Yale Cup on a weekend that featured snow, frigid temperatures, and searing wind. Brown finished 4-0 in pool play on Saturday and then came out strong Sunday morning with an 11 point win over Bowdoin and an 8 point win over Tufts. Despite a derailment by the Red Line of Harvard in the semifinals, who beat Dartmouth in the finals, Brown played with intensity all weekend and played some of its best ultimate this season. The ramp-up has begun, and with outdoor practice starting up last week, the best is yet to come. Special thanks to Andy's parents for letting a bunch of us spend the weekend at your house and for all the wonderful meals. We really appreciated everything you did for us! Also thanks to all the moms, dads, girlfriends, and friends who came out in the cold this weekend to cheer us on, warm us with blankets, and nourish us with food and drinks. It was really great seeing you all out there this weekend! Next up is Sectionals this weekend at URI in Kingston, RI. Check for tournament details later in the week at the UPA South New England Sectionals website. All 3 ultimate teams from Brown will be there, including Brown-B (Polyester Funk) and Brown-C (C-Funk). Friday, April 6 This weekend, the team heads to Yale University for the annual Yale Cup, which is also the Ivy League Championship. Brown is slated for 4 games Saturday, starting at 9 in the morning, against Dartmouth, MIT, Northeastern, and Tufts. The weather forecast calls for sun and highs of 45 degrees all weekend. For more information on seeding and game times, you can check out the Yale Cup tournament page. Also, check out Jarrod's fourth team newsletter for a recap of Centex and profile spotlight on captain Ben Saper '07. All the newsletters are now posted off the "Newsletter" link on the top of every page on this website. See you this weekend! Monday, April 2 Centex proved to be another endurance test, and although we had more success at the tournament this year than last, there were games that slipped through our hands. There were points that were well-executed, and points with lapses. Brownian Motion went 1-4 on Saturday and rebounded with a 2-1 showing on Sunday. The third game on Saturday pitted B-Mo against the top seed in our pool, Georgia, winner of the Stanford Invite. B-Mo jumped out to a 7-5 halftime lead, but had trouble putting together two strong halves and lost 13-9. The win Saturday was against East rival Pittsburgh on universe point. By the final game of the day against Texas A&M, there were players were cramping or injured, and B-Mo fought hard, but wound up with a tough two-point loss. Sunday featured wins over California and Davidson, with a tough loss on universe point to North Texas. Check out scores and complete season results on the Tourney webpage. B-Mo finally hits the grass with the start of weekly outdoor practices on Tuesday. As long as the snow and cold weather stays away, look for B-Mo to come together and start their ramp up to Regionals and Nationals. This upcoming weekend B-Mo will be jumping across state lines to play in the annual Yale Cup tournament, and the following weekend will play on the University of Rhode Island campus in Regionals. Thursday, March 22 Check out a preview of our tournament in Texas this weekend, the summary of the Huck of the Irish tournament in Baltimore, and get to know Drew Raines '09 in Jarrod's third installment of the update team newsletter. Yes, everything is bigger in Texas, and this weekend we will be heading to Austin for the Centex tournament. 24 of the nation's best teams in ultimate will be there and once again pool play on Saturday will be an endurance test. 5 consecutive games to 13 on Saturday. Our pool pits us against tournament #21 seed UCSD first, followed by California-Santa Barbara, pool top seed Georgia, Atlantic rival Pittsburgh, and Texas A&M. You can check out Centex tournament information here. After Centex, we will be heading to the Outer Banks in North Carolina to spend the week together as an ultimate program - guys teams and girls teams at all levels. After a busy academic schedule and a grueling tournament, it will be a rejuvenating, relaxing week. When we get back to Brown after Spring Break, I'll update the webpage with Centex info. Wednesday, March 14 One final update - Jarrod's second installment of the update team newsletter is now out! Tuesday, March 13 Playing for the first time ever at the Huck of the Irish, Brownian Motion finished 6-1 and lost only in the finals to a tough Delaware team that they beat the day before in the pool crossover game. The weather for the mid-Atlantic in mid-March actually turned out to be rather nice. It was sunny both days, with the temperature in the low 50s. The wind was out all weekend, which meant lots of zone D and zone O. Special thanks to the Fetting-Smiths for absolutely taking care of us this weekend, from all of the great tournament food and drinks they brought us, to a special Baltimore-style feast on Saturday night, to cheering us on both days. We really loved all the support! All the photos from the Stanford Invite are now up on the website, with full-size versions available by clicking on the smaller versions. If there are any more photos from Stanford you know of, or from the Huck of the Irish this past weekend, you can email Jeff with information. Centex in two weeks! Friday, March 9 Brownian Motion had a bunch of close games at the Stanford Invite this weekend in some great, warm weather. The signature win was one over Stanford in pool play, as Stanford went on to the finals of the tournament, only to lose to Georgia, 17-15. Special thanks to alums Justin Safdie and Jesse Myers for feeding us and housing us Friday and Saturday night, and for coming out to watch us play. Some pictures from the Stanford Invite are now up on the website. All the pictures, and full-size versions of each picture, will go up sometime next week. We are off to Baltimore this weekend for another tournament, Huck of the Irish. Click here for tournament info. Wednesday, February 28 Alums, Parents, Friends - Check out the season's first update team newsletter!! Just one more day until Brownian Motion flys out to Palo Alto, CA for the annual Stanford Invite. Since returning for second semester, we have started up track practices, 4-man workouts, and weekend team practices. The weather has generally been pretty cold recently, with snow in the forecast the past couple days, but we have been lucky to have received some warmer days for our weekend team practices. You can click here for tournament information, including directions to the fields, the 16 teams in the tourney, and the games schedule. If you're an alum, parent, or friend in the area, we'd love to have your support by coming out to watch us play. Hopefully the sun and warmth will be out this weekend, because the past two years, the tournament has been hit hard by lots of rain. We're excited - another season of ultimate about to kick off! Thursday, January 18 Our friend, teammate and captain Mike Franz passed away peacefully on January 13, 2007, after suffering a massive stroke and struggling for 10 1/2 weeks in a coma. Across the country and around the world, those whose life Mike touched are mourning him, and celebrating his life. Our love is with Franz, and with his family. The Franzes and Bettina have asked that instead of sending flowers, friends and family contribute to Mike's legacy through BMo. As his father put it lovingly, "You may put your money where his mouth was at its loudest." Please contribute to the Michael Franz Memorial Fund here: www.sportsfoundation.brown.edu/giving/memorials.html If you would rather, you can also send a check to the Brown Sports Foundation (made payable to the Michael Franz Memorial Fund), mailed to Brown Sports Foundation, Box 1925, Providence, RI 02912. Or, call the Sports Foundation and make a credit card gift over the phone – 401-863-1900. |
