Sorry about the delay for this Sectionals write-up. I've been quite busy and so had my brother write it and then -- he did it promptly -- I labored in getting it out. But don't fret, here 'tis. Also look for a B-team write-up in the next couple days...I hope...

Neale Mahoney writes about the A Team:

Brown A, B, and C teams travelled to Kingston, RI to compete in the opening round of the UPA College Series. With B-Mo and P-Funk (Brown B) as the one and two seeds going into the tournament, the Brown Men's Ultimate program was expected to dominate. It did not disappoint. Brown A and B finished one-two and Brown C broke seed to finish in 14th place. The domination by Brown's B and C teams was particulary noteworth, with Brown B's only loss of the weekend coming to the A side and Brown C finishing ahead of 3 of the 5 B teams at the tournament.

Brown A had a relitively easy Saturday, scoring 13-0 victories over Brown C and Worcester Polytech B and 13-2 victories over UConn and URI. However the easy victories were not meaningless. It was one of the first opportunities for the new players to expand their roles and all were impressive in doing so; the games featuring breakout performances by Tyler Gage, Dan Goldberg, Elliot Bock, Jimmy Lowe, and John Greer.

On Sunday Brown A drew a match up against Conn College. After an extremely sluggest first half--one characterized by blow defensive assignments, forgotten forces, drops, and throwaways--Brown got into gear. Leading on 8-6 at the half, Brown went on a 7-0 run to close out the game 13-6.

The finals of Sectionals was a family feud with Brown A matched up against their sibling squad Brown B. As expected in sibling squabbles, the game featured spirited and highly intense play. In the end, Brown A took the match 15-5, but not before good fun and hard play was had by all.

Brown A will play at Regionals in two weeks. With bids to Nationals on the line, Brown is looking forward to two weeks of hard, productive practices.

Hiroaki Tanaka writes about the C team:

The C Team finished the tournament with a 1-5 record.

C Team opened their Saturday with a game against the A Team. While the C Team was shut out, they had a great time playing against the A Team and learned a lot of things--like Colin is tall, and Champ is fast. After a Bye during which the C Team watched the B Team play, C played U Conn A. We missed some key chances in the end zone, losing 13-1 in the end. The third game of the day was against WPI B, who we beat soundly by a score of 13-5. We took the half 7-5 feeling we could come out with a victory, and picked it up the second half to shut down WPI's offense with a mean zone led by Chip in the cup and Matt Bornstein running a vicious short deep. The donut second half earned the team a round of donuts from Aleksey. Our last game of the day was a loss to URI, 13-4.

On Sunday the C Team went savage for both their games and lost by scores of 11-9 to UConn B and 11-10 to Yale B. Wesleyan B forfeited their game. While we were slow in starting up against UConn B in our first game, we fought back from a 6-2 deficit at the half to make the score 10-9; while we lost the game in the end, the comeback was relentless and the team was proud of the way we picked it up. The C Team then had a two-hour break because Wesleyan forfeited, but the Savage caught up to them in the Yale B match. While both sides fought hard (the widest margin was a 10-8 lead we took right before the hard cap), the battered C team could not pull through with a victory against a Yale team who frequently utilized Pick calls. Aleksey Novokov [sic?] played hard with a brutally beaten body, but had to leave the game on the last point due to a twisted ankle. Said Aleksey, "I am not a robot, after all." (Not a joke.) There were some nice endzone plays run by C Funk on the last p!
oint, which was played 6 v 6 due to Aleksey's injury, but they were all scratched out by Yale's pick calls. Unable to score, we dropped the last point. While we finished with an 0-2 for the day, we were sure had we had any subs, we could have pulled through with Ws on both our games.
