![]() Back to Index of Newsletters April 14, 2006 Hello everyone- Well, it's mid-April if you can believe it, and it's finally warm in Providence. Although the ground may on occasion be mushy, the weather has been getting nicer and nicer- Monday officially featured "frisbee players throwing on the Main Green" among myriads of sun-hungry Brown students. Obviously BMo is excited because this means that we can trade our OMAC work-groups for afternoon practices outside. This past Sunday's practice featured a guest appearance in the form of a partial squad from Death or Glory (DoG), Boston's elite men's "club" ultimate team (club division = highest level of ultimate). Among those picking up with the DoG contingent were some of our 2005 college national champions- Dan MacArthur '05, Alex Bowman '05, Josh Champagne '05, and Jarrod Lynn '05- and splitting duties between coaching us/ schooling us with DoG was Coach Josh Ziperstein '05. We practiced from 1-230, followed by a lengthy scrimmage with DoG and then some mixed-squad games. We wrapped it up by 530 with a barbeque at my place as a thank you for the DoG guys that drove down from Boston (and for Josh Champagne for flying in from Croatia). This weekend, we will be playing at the Yale Cup in scenic New Haven, CT. This is our first taste of the New England Region (with a little Metro East for garnish) and we will look to represent our program's fine history at Yale Cup- champions in six of the last eight seasons. But, as all of us have learned this year, it takes hard work and grit to be a good ultimate team. No victories are guaranteed. Brown will look to come out strong to establish its presence ahead of Sectionals (April 22-23) and Regionals (May 6-7). For directions to Yale Cup, please see: http://www.yale.edu/superfly/yc05.html (and scroll down- directions at bottom of Yale's page). We'd love to see you at Yale Cup. If you're within a couple hours of New Haven this weekend, you should definitely come by and see us play. It will be a great opportunity to see our new look- our black Patagonia jerseys as opposed to our traditional reds and our wealth of new players (fast becoming veterans of the Brown system). The tournament schedule can be found here: http://www2.upa.org/scores/tourn.cgi?div=18&id=2215 . If you can't make it out to see us play, you can always support us in other ways through the Brown Sports Foundation ( www.sportsfoundation.brown.edu- select Men's Ultimate). We are always grateful for your contributions- I've said it before and I'll say it again: we can't do this without your support. Hope to see you this weekend. It's going to be a blast. Be well, Jon Greer #4 PS. You can find out more about us at www.brown.edu/Athletics/Mens_Ultimate/ .
