FAQs
FAQs
Q: ARE YOU GUYS A PART OF A LEAGUE?
A: Yes, the Brown Club Tennis Team is part of the “Tennis On Campus” organization which is sponsored by the USTA. We play in a series of tournaments every year that they sponsor and compete at the Regional, Sectional and National level.
Q: IS THE BROWN CLUB TENNIS TEAM CO-ED?
A: Yes. And No. Many of the tournaments that we play in require both male and female participation but we also have matches that involve solely the men’s or women’s teams. We run practices both together and separately depending on what scheduling allows. The captains are constantly in contact with one another and therefore, the teams are very close.
Q: WHAT IS THE MATCH FORMAT WHEN YOU PLAY AGAINST OTHER SCHOOLS?
A: All the tournaments that are sponsored by the USTA are played using World Team Tennis format. This means that when we are matched up against another school, we compete in Men’s and Women’s Singles, Men’s and Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. There are other matches that we schedule independently of the USTA which may involve only the men’s team or the women’s team.
Q: WHAT IS WORLD TEAM TENNIS?
A: World Team Tennis is a method of competition that has become popular in the last several years. Billie Jean King engineered this format to encourage more crowd involvement and participation. You can learn more at the WTT WEBSITE.
Q: HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?
A: Visit our CONTACTS page and get in touch with one of the captains. We are always looking for new talent and we’ll ask you to come out to a practice. As our funding is limited, we cannot keep everyone on the team and thus, we have a ladder in place.
Q: HOW DOES THE LADDER WORK?
A: All the information about the ladder can be found on our FACEBOOK PAGE.
Q: CAN I DONATE TO BROWN CLUB TENNIS?
A: Yes, you absolutely can donate and we are unbelievably appreciative of all who do. Please visit our DONATE page and follow the instructions there. The more donations we get, the more people we can take on the team and the more tournaments we can enter.
