GAME SUMMARY—10.6.07 vs. UConn
Brown Club Field Hockey started out a little slow but finished strong in a 4-1 loss to the Huskies on Saturday afternoon. On an unseasonably balmy October afternoon, the Huskies came fired up and put in a goal, a stroke, and two more goals in the beginning of the first half. Undaunted, the Bears stepped up their game and played smarter defense all over the field, preventing UConn from scoring again. In the second half the Bears came out completely fired up and rested from the halftime break and at the opening whistle took the ball straight down the field and put it in the back of the cage, courtesy of Amanda Gonsalves, breaking the UConn shutout. The remainder of the game saw some great midfield and defensive plays with a few more scoring opportunities, but neither team was able to score again. Special thanks to the referees, who came to the team's rescue today when referees were needed last-minute.
Amanda, in textbook fashion, took the ball straight down the field and put it away for the team's lone goal in brilliant fashion… Kimmy hustled all over and was a true leader on the field… Chelsea Macco, fighting off illness, was able to continue her fantastic (and tough!) defensive play at sweeper… Jules really used her knowledge of the field to cut to the sideline and open herself up to passes… Maddie was her usual tenacious self, putting the UConn players in their places with her quick stickwork and hustle… Emily Fishman showed hustle and great marking on defense… Maria F. was a force down the right side, as usual, and posed a real threat to UConn's defense with her offensive plays… Jena was a real team player and had excellent stickwork on the defensive end of the field… Sarah was fantastic on the defensive end of the field, marking offensive players well and being aware of the whole field… Katie G. showed some excellent hockey skills in her first match with BCFH… Melea also showed some awesome defensive and stick skills in her first match with BCFH

GAME SUMMARY—9.29.07 vs. Northeastern

Brown Club Field Hockey came out firing on all cylinders and played spectacularly in a 2-1 double overtime loss to the Northeastern Huskies on Saturday afternoon. At the start of the game there was a lot of midfield play, but the Huskies were the first to break through with a goal off of a rebound. Undaunted, the Bears kept the pressure on and broke through in the last few seconds with a brilliant rocket goal by Maria F. (possibly the most fantastic goal I've seen in my 21+ years of life). The second half saw some great passing, communication, and excellent defensive work, but we were unable to crack the Husky defense. With only a few subs we were not as eager for overtime seven-aside as the Huskies, but still took the field with gusto. We had some great defensive saves in OT and a few scoring opportunities, but were unable to finish. Finally, in the second OT the Huskies were able to slide one past the defense for the sudden death win. Congrats for the excellent play by the Brown Bears. If this game is any indication, we are going to have a fantastic season and be a team to be reckoned with.
Maria F. was superb on offense and scored the team's lone (brilliant) goal...... Margaret marked well and made great plays all over the field…… Jules controlled the midfield area with her quick stickwork and accurate passes…… Rhianna got a real workout on some great offensive breakaways…… Maddie was a pistol, hustling to every ball and making some very smart plays…… Chelsea H. led the midfield with hustle, great hits and some nice steals…… Cara played some very smart defense and had some awesome plays and great marking…… Kimmy was a firecracker and led the team by making some very unselfish plays…… Laura was great on defense, sticking to her player like a wet t-shirt…… Sarah made a lot of smart plays all over the field using wide passes towards the sideline…… Kaitlin showed hustle, heart, and great passing all over the field…… Chelsea Macco has become my new favorite person after her spectacular play at sweeper, making many smart defensive plays and just generally thwarting the Huskies' opportunities to score…… Jen made some very smart plays, including using holes and passing lanes to help push the ball up to our offensive end.
