Physical Education Pass

The Physical Education Pass offers Recreation members a diverse and flexible program of top-notch fitness and recreation instruction. Members can choose to participate in unlimited classes offered on the Physical Education schedule. Take more of the classes you love or try something new to help achieve your fitness goals!

FAQ

Q: How does the program work?
A: Show your Physical Education Pass and your Brown/RISD ID card for admission to any class offered on the schedule. All classes are first-come, first-served basis. All participants must sign-in to each class attended.

Q: Where can I purchase my Physical Education Pass?
A: Purchase your pass online HERE.

Once your payment has been processed, you may pick up your Pass at the OMAC Front Desk during business hours. Proof of payment is acceptable if pass is not ready. (Allow 1-2 business days from purchase date).

Q: What classes are included?
A: ALL CLASSES INCLUDED! No pre-registration necessary.

Q: Is there a limit on how many classes I can take?
A: Unlimited. Come & go as you please.

Q: Can I reserve my place in a popular class?
A: No. All classes are available on a first come, first served basis. Please arrive early to increase your chances for getting a spot.

Q: What is the refund policy?
A: Physical Education passes provide ample opportunities to try a variety of instructional classes. Full refunds are eligible after 7 days from your initial registration.

Class Descriptions

*All fitness levels welcome. Work at your own pace in any class.*

Body Sculpt - Body Sculpt is designed to shape and tone the body without building muscular size or bulk. This sculpting class will help retain lean muscle tissue, boost metabolism, and perfectly tone large muscle groups.

Guts & Glutes - A high-intensity cardio and strength conditioning class incorporating both athletic and military-style drills. The instructor uses creative and innovative exercises to improve overall fitness.

Bootcamp - A high-intensity cardio and strength conditioning class incorporating steps, weights, jump ropes, medicine balls and much more to train every part of your body! Tighten & tone while getting an invigorating cardiovascular workout.

Training Day - Prepare yourself for an action-packed class full of bodyweight movements through a sequence of dynamic warm-ups, strengthening exercises, and explosive sequences, all incorporated into circuit stations. Similar to popular Insanity® & P90X®, you will get results right here at Brown! Energize and recharge in Training Day.

Pump - Challenge yourself to the ultimate workout experience. PUMP is ideal for strengthening from head to toe while providing incredible cardiovascular conditioning. Using cardio barbells and rubber weighted plates, you will learn the fundamental movements of traditional resistance training exercises. Step & Sculpt - Work through a series of fun and easy-to-follow step combinations while improving cardiovascular fitness and overall strength. A variety of strengthening exercises are incorporated to sculpt and tone the body. Whether on the step or the floor, Step & Sculpt mixes it up to provide an exciting experience.

Cardio Kick - Blend your hidden strength with the ancient art of self-defense, dance, and boxing techniques, while engaging in a challenging cardio kickboxing style workout! The movements are fun and easy to follow – no complicated choreography involved. Check it out and kick your fitness up a notch!

Zumba® - Are you ready to party yourself into shape? That's exactly what the Zumba movement is all about. It's an exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness-party that's moving millions of people toward joy and health.

TurboKick® - The unique Turbo Kick® movement patterns, combinations and techniques work together to give YOU the ultimate cardiovascular workout that will melt fat and reshape your body! Each full body workout consists of a sport specific warm-up, higher paced intervals, easy to follow combinations, kickboxing specific strength/endurance training and a mind/body like cool-down designed to maximize weight loss!

Power Yoga - Power Yoga allows you to ground down and flow through poses while holding asanas for 6 to 8 breaths. Work muscles and mind through movements that incorporate core, balance, strength and stability. The class will challenge you physically and enhance your ability to focus on meditational movement as flowing through a slower, Yin style of Yoga. Deepen your practice and embrace your power.

Yogalates - A movement system that combines yoga and pilates. This technique involves stretching and strengthening the entire body. This class is the perfect blend of your favorites.

Yoga Flow - A flowing style of yoga, incorporating fundamental principles of yoga styles including dynamic breathing techniques, movement, core-strength, and awareness. Yoga flow is an invigorating class to keep you energized throughout the day.

Pilates - Build a longer, leaner physique with Pilates mat work. The Pilates method helps to lengthen and strengthen muscles and balance the musculoskeletal system. The exercises focus on core strength, torso stability, and mobility of the limbs. Pilates practice will improve your posture, body awareness, strength, flexibility, and balance.

Tai Chi - An "internal" martial art, practiced slowly, using soft and slight strength. It pivots on shifts of body weight from one leg to another, the balance between yin and yang (feminine and masculine) forces. Tai Chi has often been called "meditation in motion."

Yoga - Acquire flexibility and a sense of well being through classical yoga postures. Improve your concentration and enjoy mental peace and tranquility through relaxation technique. Breathe better to renew energy and vitality.

Vinyasa Flow - This class draws from the traditional movements of Ashtanga yoga techniques and meditation style. This yoga style allows creativity and freedom of the mind and body. In addition to improving flexibility, the class will challenge your cardiovascular endurance and aerobic capacity.

Ice Skating - Learn the fundamentals of ice skating through the U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills curriculum. (Must provide your own skates)

Squash - Instruction in squash from basic levels through intermediate and advanced levels. Learn to play the enjoyable, lifelong sport of squash. Beginner/Intermediate instruction available, see schedule for details. (Limited racquets available to borrow)

Tennis - Instruction in tennis from basic levels through intermediate and advanced levels. Learn to play the enjoyable, lifelong sport of tennis. Beginner/Intermediate instruction available, se schedule for details. (Limited racquets available to borrow)

The Brown University Mind & Body program offers classes taught by several instructors, each with their own teaching style and philosophy. For specific information on each course, please read the following descriptions.

SHAKE YOUR SOUL - Shake Your Soul� is a balance of directed and spontaneous movement. First and foremost, this class is fun! Make the class as vigorous or as gentle as you choose. As the music tempo increases, you start to move with more rhythm and power. Gradually, the instructor stops being the choreographer and invites you to create your own movement pattern.

DEEP CORE & RELEASE - Access core muscles while giving a rest to the ones that work too hard. In this way the body becomes streamline and flow sequences become more efficient. Working with rollers and fitness balls to cue the abdominal area, the class alternates between feeling the burn and getting a massage. This technique combines pilates with principles of yoga, tai chi, isometrics and cleansing breath-work. Perfect for energizing after a day's work, priming for competitive sports, and finding the body's best, most organic alignment.

KUNDALINI YOGA - Kundalini Yoga is a very powerful and positive practice designed to allow you to experience your own higher consciousness. Kundalini yoga combines mental focus, intentional breathing, movement, postures, body locks, sound currents, deep relaxation and meditation to work on every aspect of your body, mind and being.

PILATES MAT - Based upon the principles of Joseph Pilates and the Power Pilates Method, the class strengthens the core through a series of pilates movements. You will develop and excel your endurance with this technique, beneficial to the mind and body.

PILATES STRENGTH & STABILITY - Similar to pilates, this invigorating class while strengthen your entire body. The class uses a variety of balls and weights, with a fusion of dance exercises to increase flexibility and strength. Tone your body in this pilates style class and have a blast too.

General Information

The Physical Education program has a rich & diverse selection of uniqure offerings, ranging from strength & cardiovascular conditioning to mind/body, dance, recreational, & martial arts instruction. Our qualified fitness staff offers patrons an exceptional and challenging experience in a motivating group setiting. Brown Physical Education offers something for all.

  • Registration Eligibility: In order to be eligible to register for the Brown University Physical Education Program you must hold a Brown Recreation membership
  • Registration Procedure: All registrations will be received and refunded online. We will no longer be receiving any mail-in registration forms or in person sign ups.
  • Payment methods accepted: Visa, MC, Amex, Discover credit/debit cards

* No refunds are given for Intersession Classes *

For academic semesters and summer classes, all refund requests must meet the designated time frame for refunds:

  • 100% refund will be issued up until the end of week 1.
  • 50% refund will be issued up until the end of week 2.
  • No refunds will be issued thereafter.
  • Medical refunds must be accompanied by original receipt as well as appropriate documentation from the physician/health care provider. All medical refunds will be pro-rated according to the date of the request. All medical requests must be made in person in OMAC room 101.
