Meehan Auditorium was made possible by the late George V. Meehan, who donated the funds necessary to construct an arena to "service and promote" the Brown men's ice hockey program. Dedicated on January 6, 1962, on the evening Brown defeated Ivy rival Princeton, Meehan has hosted both ECAC and NCAA tournament play and stands as one of the oldest on-campus hockey facilities in the East. The auditorium seats 3,100 and is easily recognized by its great domed roof, which rises up to greet out-of-town visitors from its perch at the corner of Hope Street and Lloyd Avenue. The domed architecture provides for no obstructed-view seats, making every seat in the house a great place to catch all the action. Conveniently situated next to three other major Brown athletic facilities - the Pizzitola Sports Center, Olney-Margolies Athletic Center and Smith Swim Center - Meehan is the proud home of Brown Bear Hockey.
