The Brown Sailing Team wrapped up another terrific year finishing 4th overall out of 18 teams at the Gill/College Sailing Dinghy National Championship, May 28-30, in St. Pete, FL. Tommy Fink '13, Ashley Noble '13, and Kristin Altreuter '14 won B-division for the Robert M. Allen Jr. Trophy. The Bears had an impressive 2013 College Sailing Nationals, finishing 4th at Women's Semifinals, 9th at Women's Nationals, 3rd at Team Race Nationals and 4th at Dinghy Nationals.
The Bears won their second New England Championship of 2013, winning the New England Team Race Championship at Harvard, May 4-5. It came down to the last race of the regatta with Boston College for the title, and the Bears prevailed in an action packed back and forth race. In 2012, Boston College beat the Bears on a tiebreaker for this championship. Brown finished with 13 wins and 6 losses in the 12 team event and will head to the College Sailing/APS Team Race National Championship from May 25-27 in St. Pete, FL.
Brown Head Sailing Coach John Mollicone has been named a finalist for the 2012 U.S. Sailing Rolex Yachtsman of the Year. Eight male finalists have been announced with the winner being named in January 2013. Mollicone won the 2012 J-24 North American and National Championships and finished second out of 96 boats at the J-24 World Championship. Other top finishes include winning the J-24 Pre-Worlds/District 7 Championship, the Sail Newport Regatta/J-24 Northeast Championship, J-24 Fleet 50 Championship, and finishing second at the J-24 Midwinters.
