CAMBRIDGE, MASS. (July 17, 2015) – The Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) has named its 2014-15 All-Academic Sailing Team. The All-Academic Sailing Team recognizes collegiate sailors who have achieved excellence in national and inter-conference competition as well as excelling at the highest academic level for the 2014-15 academic year. The All-Academic Sailing Team was inaugurated in 2006 and this year there is new criteria resulting in a longer list of honorees than there has been in previous years.
It was a terrific and memorable 11 days for the Brown Bears at the 2015 College Sailing Spring National Championships in Newport, RI. Brown hosted 5 regattas and competed in 4 of them during that time, finishing 3rd at both the Sperry Women's Nationals and Gill Coed Semi-finals, 6th at the Sperry Women's Semi-finals, and 13th at the Gill Coed Nationals. Brown finished 9th overall in College Sailing for the Fowle Trophy which is the overall National Championship ranking (there are six National Championships throughout the year).
The coed team won the New England Dinghy Championship for the second time in the last three years (2013, 2015), hosted by Salve Regina University in Newport, RI, May 2-3, 2015. It was a hard fought battle for the Bears, who stayed close to first overall throughout the entire 30 race event (15 races in each division). In the later races on Sunday the breeze came up and Brown dominated, winning the event in the last race over Coast Guard and Yale. Congrats to the entire coed team on a terrific team effort!
