ALUM NEWS - CLASS OF ??

If anyone has any questions about frisbee in the late 1970's - long before women's teams, they can contact me at rsinger@whoi.edu. I caught an Inferno game a few years ago (did we end up calling the alumnae team the Hot Flashes?). Things have changed quite a bit in 25 years. Quite a bit more serious and more raunchy these days. Very fun.
I played my first game of "disk golf" the other day at my son's summer camp. It was also a far cry from our homemade frisbee golf games where we just designated trees and sides of buildings to aim at.
There is a crowd that plays Ultimate on Thursdays at lunch where I work (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution on Cape Cod) and I'm probably considerably bringing up the average age single-handedly. I can't say I'm the oldest to play because I brought my husband one day and he is even older than I. (By the way, he works at Brown Health Services and his name is Tor.) My 11 year old son played and his speed made him a more valuable player than I am. But I make up for it all in enjoyment. My best wishes for all current Brown Women Frisbee players. "Burn Baby Burn".

Disco Inferno provides me with some of my sweetest and most hilarious memories from college, so I am psyched to respond. Here's my message:
(Imaging a "Fame" walk warming you up to read this message): How ironic that I just unearthed the leopard-print dress that the team gave me my senior year that I would get this email today!?! I am emailing from work and, as a teacher, I have precious little free time, so here's a quick blurb: I left Providence in the Spring of 1996 for Bloomington, Indiana and have been here ever since. I am a high school social studies teacher in a small, alternative private school. How alternative, you ask? Alternative enough to allow me to teach Ultimate classes all the time to students mixed in age and gender from third grade up to seniors in high school. The sport definitely has a cult following here and I'm happy to encourage that sort of behavior among today's youth. I love teaching but am thinking about a change, and am looking into applying to grad school in Public Policy. As for who I talk to, Sara Swedlund (our team's "Luke Skywalker") has visited me three times and she is doing great--should be a certified teacher any day now. Anna Wonder ("Obi Wan") still rocks, and I should see her this spring when I visit her in Cali. Andi Weisman rocks as well, and just bought a house in Maine where she's a teacher too. Other than that, I've had precious little contact with the team--I reeeeeeeeeaally want to get in touch with a bunch of people who I've lost contact with: Eve Zaritsky, Laura Davis, Laura Wides ...anyone from the teams I was on, I'd love to hear from you . Please email or phone me if you want to hear more or get in touch, because I'd love to get in touch with anyone and everyone from the teams I played with. You all rock my world. As far as news with me, I've been working for IBM in NY for 2.5 years now and am thinking of doing something else very soon. My plan is to move out west somewhere for a year (starting this summer) for a change of pace--HI, AZ and CA are contenders now. I'm hoping to snag a teaching job wherever I end up--and hopefully get back into the ultimate scene. I hope everyone is well and I'm psyched for a reunion -- either at Fools or an alumnae game over graduation!!<

Quick news about what I'm up to: I'm living in Berkeley now, and going to graduate school at the California College of Arts and Crafts getting a master's in textiles. I'm a quiltmaker, and no offense to the fabric store quilt, but they don't look like what everyone pictures when the word quilt comes up. And yes, I've played ultimate every season since graduation. I'm currently on a team called Toast, although at this time each year, what will happen next season is always up in the air. Our own Brown grad Carter Graham is on that team as well. And yes, someday I'd like to get my own act together to play on an alumni team. Anna Wonder -my nickname "wonder" or "anna wonder" has stuck well for Brown grads. I've had several people move out here and ask around for someone named "Anna Wonder" and no one knew anyone with that last name out here. And if anyone needs a place to stay when they're in the bay area, I'm at 2512 9th St. #6, Berkeley CA. 94710

good to hear from you. i might be into coming to fools! but right now i am so busy that i think i have to ask you for an extension about telling you what i'm up to! no, but seriously, i am in grad school @ caltech in pasadena, CA (basically LA) and it is going pretty well so far. and i live w/ my boyfriend corey who is the bomb and who is also an awesome ultimate player. i have been playing a good deal of ultimate although i have played only coed for the fall series the past 2 years (since i left nyc where i played w/ ambush). Hopefully I'll finally play women's this coming fall. I guess that is about it, right now i am in major stress mode at school b/c i have a major report due march 3. But after that is over i plan to take some serious vacation time which is why fools is not totally out of the picture. i'd love to see everyone from disco and play some good e. coast style women's ulti. anyway, thanks for the e mail. hope to hear from everyone soon!!
