We present the combined theoretical and experimental investigations of local electrochemistry at the nanoscale by electrochemical strain microscopy. Both lithium ion battery electrrode and solid oxide fuel cell electrolyte are probed, and in combination with detailed transport analysis and numerical simulation, we show that measurements of local ion concentration and diffusivity are possible at the nanoscale.
