Clathrin-mediated endocytosis (CME) is one of the key metabolic pathways that plays a central role in the delivery of nutrients and drug carriers into cells. In this work, we employ the theory of inhomogeneous membranes to provide physical insights into the mechanics of CME. In particular, we quantify the role of a few key endocytic proteins at different stages of CME in both yeast and mammalian cells.
