Recently Professor K. R. Rajagopal introduced a very intriguing class on strain-limiting models for elastic bodies within a broad class of implicit constitutive theories that he and several of his colleagues have been studying to great advantage in a wide variety of applications to bodies exhibiting both fluid-like and solid-like properties. In this talk, we discuss a number of recent results and open questions concerning the use of a certain class of hyperelastic, strain-limiting constitutive models in analyzing a variety of canonical boundary value problems leading to singularities in classical linear and nonlinear hyperelastic theories.
