Houses and Their Furnishings in Early America Assignments

Assignment for October 13 :

In a 3-5 pp paper, analyze the household furnishings listed in the 1722 probate inventory of Eleazer Arnold’s “moveable goods.” Describe where in his house you think they were located and how they were used. Explain what can we tell about his life in seventeenth-century and early-eighteenth-century Rhode Island by examining the material evidence that survives him. Why do you think so?

For this assignment you will need to draw upon your own experience in visiting the Arnold House, as well as on the 1722 inventory, class readings, and class discussion.
