**DUE November 9, 2004** On Tuesday, November 2nd, class will meet at Swan Point Cemetery, the so-called “rural cemetery” established on the outskirts of the City of Providence in 1847. Assignment for your second paper: Describe some aspect or feature of the Swan Pont Cemetery you observed during your visit and comment on why it is appropriate to the idea of the Rural Cemetery Movement. Make specific reference to the ideals that underlay this movement by citing assigned or reserve readings. You may want to emphasize the significance of the feature you choose by contrasting it with your experience in an eighteenth-century graveyard or churchyard.
