Methods of Abortion Introduction
|
Following implantation of the developing embryo into the wall of the uterus (the initiation of pregnancy), numerous biological changes occur in both the fetus and the woman throughout the duration of the pregnancy. Should a woman choose to terminate her pregnancy, the options available to her depend on the stage of the pregnancy and development of the fetus. There are a few different options during each trimester, medical and surgical, but options are increasingly limited the later in development, both for biological and political reasons. As a result, eighty-eight percent of abortions occur within the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.(1) When Women Have Abortions (in weeks) (1)
