Parthenogenesis in the Lab

When exposed to the proper environmental cues, non parthenogenetic species can undergo the primary steps of parthenogenesis.[B]

This can be artificially simulated by essentially "tricking" the egg into thinking that it has been fertilized by a sperm. Parthenogenesis can be triggered by a number of factors related to the disruption of the egg's outer most membrane.

Experiments in species ranging from sea urchins to rabbits have demonstrated this phenomena.
