John Ranieri earned his undergraduate degree in chemical engineering at the University at Buffalo, his master's degree in materials science and engineering at Brown University, and his Ph.D. in medical science, also at Brown. His career has spanned a broad variety of business experiences that ultimately led him to Georgia Tech. At Georgia Tech, he focused on developing the commercial potential of biomaterials for medical applications, the effective use of genetic and protein information technologies (bioinformatics) and development of mass-customized microelectronics devices. Most recently, he served as vice president and managing director of the biomaterials and cardiovascular businesses at Aortech, a medical device company.
