Yes, they give a broad background to allow innovation and invention by crossing ideas and understanding from many fields.  Provides a basic understanding of many areas.

 

What are your favorite aspects of your job?  What are the drawbacks?

 

Freedom to explore needs and invent.  A great corporate environment where making money is equal to improving the quality of health care and having an enjoyable and rewarding place to work.  Drawback - can't do everything that is good.
 

What qualities are most important for someone in your field?
 

Experience completing projects.  Success working with others.  Ability to clearly present and write, as evidence of ability to think clearly.

 

What advice do you have for someone who is thinking about pursuing a career in your area?

 

Develop a broad background AND expertise in one or two fields.
