What have you done since
graduation?
I am currently pursuing a PhD in
Bioengineering int the Division of Biological Engineering at MIT.
I started the program in Fall of 2002 (so I started immediately after
graduating, and didn't work beforehand). I am pursuing my thesis
in the lab of Professor Linda Griffith (if you want more details about
the project I am working on, let me know).
What did you do that Brown that prepared you for your job?
Naturally, to prepare for grad school
in Bioengineering, I felt it was
important to have a solid education in both Biology and Engineering,
which prompted me to major in BME at Brown. Additionally, though,
I tried to develop a better understanding of the field, both in industry
and academia through a number of pursuits:
-taking additional advanced level classes (beyond the required number)
with Dr. Palmore, Dr. Lysaght, and Dr. Zielinski-Habershaw
-developing a relationship with the faculty that went beyond just taking
classes, to learn from their experiences in academia and in industry
-taking advantage of summer internship opportunities at the Princeton
Materials Institute, and Merck Pharmaceuticals
-founding the Brown University Chapter of the Biomedical Engineering
Society
What are your plans for the future?
After receiving my PhD, I hope to work
in industry, hopefully in the
development of biomaterials or tissue engineering-based therapies.
