What is your educational
background/advanced degrees do you have (if any) and are they a must for
what you do?
B.A.-
UC Berkeley – Molecular Cell Biology and Minor in Business
Administration.
Both
are important for what I do because I have to understand how drugs
work/why some drugs are better than others, and also understand the
business strategy of clients. The business part is much easier to learn
on the job.
What positions did you hold before your current position (what other
jobs led you to where you are now)?
Did
an internship in college for a consulting firm specializing in pharma.
Once I had the experience on my resume, I was able to build from it.
What are your favorite aspects of you job? What are the drawbacks?
I
don’t travel much – as much as I do like to travel on my own time,
I’m glad I don’t have to travel for work. I hear it’s very tiring
and hard on your personal life. I like consulting because you are always
changing projects so your everyday work has more variety. You learn
about different areas of the industry and have to think like your
clients – high executive positions.
What advice do you have for someone who is thinking about pursuing a
career in your area?
Take
an internship, see if you really like it. Talk to as many people as you
can, you will get a lot of different perspectives and consequentially
have a better idea of what you’re getting into. That will also help
you in your interviewing process.
What do you look for in a potential job candidate/ what qualities are
most important for someone in your field?
Solid
understanding of the industry, attention to detail, maturing (you are
going to interact with the client eventually, you have to portray a
level of maturity)
