Chemotherapy drugs work by targeting rapidly dividing cells and thus help in the eradication of tumors. However because normal functioning cells are also dividing, chemotherapy drugs are non-specific and therefore affect normal cells also. This leads to side effects, some such as potential damage to vital organs, are more serious than others e.g. fever.
