Definitions

  Ciproflaxin Fluoroquinolone antibiotic.
  Doxycycline A member of the tetracycline class of antibiotics.
  Hemorrhagic meningitis An infection which causes inflammation of the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord, which may result in hemorrhaging (10).
  Mediastinitis An inflammation of the cavity that separates the lungs and contains the heart, the large vessels, the trachea, the thymus, and connective tissues (10).
  Eschar Sloughed off dead tissue caused by burn or cauterization (10).
  Lymphangitis and Lymphadenopathy An infection of the lymph glands and lymph channels (11).
  Sepsis A serious infection caused by bacteria that has entered a wound or body tissue that leads to the formation of pus, or to the spread of the bacteria in the blood (11).
  Dysphagia Difficulty when swallowing (11).
  Ascites An excess of fluid in the peritoneal cavity (membrane lining of the abdomen) (11).
  Dyspnea Breathing difficulty (11).
  Cyanosis Bluish discoloration of the skin or mucous membranes caused by lack of oxygen in the blood (11).
  Dyphoresis Profuse sweating (11).
  Papule A skin lesion less than 1 cm in diameter that is solid, and raised (not flat) (11).
  Macule A small, flat, distinct colored area of skin that is less than 10 millimeters in diameter (11).
