Course Requirements
Your grade in the course will be determined by Parcticipation in class + [A orB] + C
 
A Website project Project: A website, developed according to guidelines developed by course leaders and webmaster,  that proceeds as follows: (1) identify subject. (2) background reading. (3) write text according to website structure. (4) collect or create illustrations. (5) write HTML. (6) request evaluation by webmaster and faculty. (7) post site. (8) report to class. Evaluation by class and faculty. =1/3 Grade (alternate for B)
B Community-based vaccine project Project: A community-based, vaccine related project that proceeds as follows: (1) identify question. (2) background investigations. (3) identify community site. (4) request permissions. (5) perform data collection. (6) analyze results. (7) write report. (8) report to class. Evaluation by class and faculty. =1/3 Grade (alternate for A)
C Term Paper A grant proposal: 15 pages maximum, excluding bibliography & figures/tables.  Proposal must contain the following components: (1) Abstract and Specific Aims. (2) Background: review of the literature (Epidemiology, Pathogenesis, Correlates of immunity, Current vaccines). (3) Proposal and justification. (3) Research Plan: steps to develop vaccine: experimental design. (4) Timeline =1/3 Grade
Class Participation Attendance / participation in discussions of course topics and student presentations. =1/3 Grade
