Mucinous adenocarcinoma

Adenocarcinoma of the rectum and colon represent the vast majority of malignancies in these locations. Depicted here is the mucinous type, an aggressive tumor. At high magnification, the malignant characteristics of pleomorphism and high nuclear:cytoplasmic ratio are visible. The photo on the right shows invasion into the muscularis propria. In both photos the abundant mucus is apparent.
