Mucinous cystadenocarcinoma

Unlike the more frequent benign mucinous cystadenoma, this malignant tumor sends invasive, mucin-secreting

cells through the appendiceal wall. In these photos note the tumor extending beyond the serosa and the

large amount of mucin production. Pseudomyxoma peritoneii is a term used when there is widespread

peritoneal involvement. Differentiation from primary ovarian tumor is sometimes difficult.
