Chronic cholecystitis

Chronic cholecystitis is associated with gallstones in most cases;   sometimes it is a sequel of previous bouts of

acute cholecystitis. Depicted here is chronic cholecystitis with a Rokitansky-Aschoff sinus. These structures are

outpouchings of mucosal epithelium into the wall through the muscular layer. In many cases, as in this case, inflammation is mild.
