Terminal sac phase
This section is from a term infant, 39 weeks. Beginning as early as 24 weeks of gestation,
terminal sacs develop with thin epithelium and encroachment of capillaries. During this phase
differentiation of the previous cuboidal epithelium into type I and II pneumocytes continues.
