Idiopathic pulmonary hemosiderosis

 

 

In the alveolar spaces and in the septa are hemosiderin-laden macrophages. There is no evidence of inflammation. This is predominantly a disease of children. There can be progressive fibrosis and pulmonary hemorrhage can be severe with

anemia or even death. Though etiology is unknown, there is a favorable response to immunosuppressive agents.
