Meconium aspiration

On the left, a bronchiole is filled with aspirated meconium and squames. On the right, peripheral airspaces

contain pink globs of meconium and there is acute inflammation. Grossly in this disorder green-yellow

meconium lines the trachea and bronchi. In severe cases persistent pulmonary hypertension and/or

diffuse alveolar damage may result. Usually the affected infant was delivered at term or post-term gestational age.
