Analysis of Beauty and the Beast
8a. Merchant (Beauty's father) loses his money (fortune).
9. He tells his children that he's lost his money and
they now
must work to support themselves.
1. Father leaves the house to tend to newly arrived merchandise.
8a. Sisters desire dresse and all sorts of finery.
9. Father asks Beauty what she wants (a rose).
11. Beauty leaves to present herself to the Beast.
12. Beauty dreams about a lady who tells her she will be
rewarded for her good deed.
14. Beauty acquires a large mirror which shows her home and
father.
13. Beauty reacts to the Beast's conversation. Declines his
marriage proposal.
20. Beauty is allowed to return home for a week.
2. She must return at the end of a week.
5. Sisters find out that Beauty's happier than they are.
6. Sister's trick Beauty into staying at home past her
alloted week.
3. Her sisters get her to spend longer than a week, causing
the
Beast great grief.
11. Beauty goes back to the Beast's castle.
13. While Beast lay dying, Beauty confesses her love to him and
gives him her hand in marriage.

Beast. It is her virtue and acceptance of the Beast that
