Formalist Analysis of Tebaldo
1. Tebaldo's young wife dies.
8a. Tebaldo wishes to remarry.
4. Tebaldo summons Doralice, and tells her of his
intentions to marry her.
(13) 12. Doralice is stowed in a chest with a magic
potion.
11. Doralice leaves home inside the chest which
is sold.
8a. King Genese sees the chest and wishes to have
it.
19. The King buys the chest and takes it home not
knowing that Doralice is inside.
15. Doralice is transported to Genese's kingdom
and realizes that he's not married.
27. Genese hides and realizes that Doralice, who's
been living in the chest, is the one who has been rearranging his room.
31. Genese marries Doralice.
21. Tebaldo searches for Doralice (as he has for
years)
(27). Tebaldo recognizes his daughter.
4. Tebaldo disguises himself and goes to Doralice's
palace.
6. Tebaldo tricks Doralice into letting him sleep
in the same room as her children.
7. Doralice agrees to let him sleep there.
8. Tebaldo kills the children and frames Doralice.
24. Tebaldo assumes another disguise and purports
to know who killed the children.
28. Doralice's nurse runs off to Doralice's new
home and tells Genese of the terrible plot against Doralice, thereby exposing
Tebaldo.
30. Salerno (Tebaldo's kingdom) is conquered by
Genese and Tebaldo is killed.
