Possible Future Uses

Since the Rhode Island National Guard left the Armory, the state has proposed many different ideas for the use of the space. The most productive idea was using the Armory as a sound stage by Michael Corrente in 1998. However, after using the space to film Outside Providence, this proposal fell through because of financial reasons. Since the downfall of the sound stage initiative, many ideas have been proposed ranging from an apartment complex, a home for a new Providence Basketball Team, to a small business incubator center. The proposal that dominates today is to use the space as a State Archive store house. Recently the state has asked Department of the Interior for a $1 million Save America's Treasures grant in hopes to restore this Providence Historical Landmark.
