McKim, Mead & White: Overview
One of the most important architectural firms formed at the end of the 19th century, the New York firm of McKim, Mead and White is responsible for almost 1000 commissions worldwide. While a small percentage of these can be attributed to the junior partners that ran the firm after the deaths of both McKim and White, over 785 works are attributed to the three men from 1879 to 1910. The firm is known for its interest in architecture as an expression of national character, as seen in the neoclassical State House in Providence (1892).
