American Woolen/Riverside Mills
The American Woolen / Riverside Mills building is a meager remnant of the old eleven-building Riverside Mills complex built in the 1860s. On the exterior facade, double inlays indicate two of its former occupants, the River Side Mills Co, and American Woolen company. Located on 55 Aleppo Street, this free standing building will be incorporated into the River Greenway Project that is cleaning up contaminated land along the river to create an extensive park for public use. The three story, 5,000 square ft red brick building has been run down by arson and age. However the Planning and Parks Department has seen potential in this buildings, and is devoting funds to its rehabilitation for public use. The space will accommodate mixed uses, including community spaces on the first floor, and residential and office spaces on the second and third floors. These spaces will be run by the occupants in coordination with the Parks Department, and will be incorporated into the surrounding Riverside Mills Park.
