The Electron microscope facility is operated as a cost-center and is administered by the Center for Advanced Materials to provide support for service contracts, supplies, and day-to-day maintenance of the equipment. This facility is available to researchers on a usage fee basis.

The Electron Microscope facility receives additional support for capital equipment and major improvements through CAMR block and individual grants. We ask all users of the Electron Microscope Facility to include the following statement in their reports and publications.

This work made use of the CAMR's Electron Microscope Facility supported by The MRSEC/NSF under Award No. DMR-0079964, and MURI2000/AFOSR under Award No. F49620-00-1-0331.

The electron microscope facility is used for both graduate and undergraduate level instructional purposes and in the research of graduate students, faculty, and staff who are associated with a wide variety of multi-investigator research projects. These investigators represent many different departments and research groups including Materials Science, Solid Mechanics, and Electrical Sciences in the Division of Engineering, as well as Physics, Chemistry, and Geology.

Access to the facility is available to all researchers performing non-classified scientific research. Users are required to schedule usage hours. In the event of a scheduling conflict, CAMR member activities receive priority. The facility is available to Brown University users 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Outside users access is limited to university business day. All users must attend the Brown University Laboratory Safety Training.

Brown University Faculty, students and staff can print and complete the application and bring it to the Center for Advanced Materials Research, Barus & Holley, 6th floor, to become a "EM" Facility User. Researchers from other universities, industry or government labs should complete the outside user application and mail the original to the CAMR Office.
