Empowering Your Future: A Science, Math, and Engineering Conference for Girls, Parents, and Accompanying Adults

Empowering Your Future is a one day conference for middle school girls and their parents and teachers. The event is co-sponsored by the Center for Advanced Materials Research and the Division of Engineering at Brown. The conference is intended for girls in Grades 8-10 and will expose them to science in a fun and educational environment. Various student sessions will be offered to showcase real life applications of math and science.

The conference will also feature special information sessions for parents and accompanying adults, focusing on helping girls with study skills, and on financial aid and other college-preparatory concerns. This is an excellent opportunity for girls and their parents or accompanying adults to find out more about the possibilities that science, math, and engineering offer. Teachers who attend are able to sit in on the student modules to get new ideas they might use in their own classrooms.

A small conference fee is applied to each participating family (fee waivers are available), which including lunch and all materials. The conference is open to girls in grades 8-10 and their parents or other accompanying adults (male or female). Girls are welcome to attend with an adult other than their parent.  If your school is interested, you can arrange for group registration.

This year Empower your Future will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2007.
