Letters From Alumni

Neil Roberts writes:

I am extremely excited to see the developments in Afro-American studies since the year following my graduation. I think what would be helpful is for all the alumni/ae who see this page to send in contact information in various cities and eventually for us to begin a newsletter together. The power of written words are strong and very often overlooked in the quest for political and social organizing. Lastly, until the 'program' obtains departmental status, no Afro-American Studies graduate can fully remain content.

All the best,

Gerald R. Taylor writes:

This site has been very informative for me, although I have to admit that I'm surprised to see it. I didn't realize that Brown even had a PhD program in Afro-American Studies. Keep up the good work! The Afro-American Studies Dept has obviously made some significant strides forward. Take care!

Markita Morris writes:

I am so proud to hear to hear that the program that has served me academically, spiritually and creatively is soon becoming a Department. It is a long time coming. The staff of the Afro American Studies Department Staff are talented, conscientious, scholarly and phenomenal human beings. Every graduate of Afro Am owes a debt of gratitude to the program for its challenges and complexities; forcing us to contemplate, think outside of the box, open ourselves creatively and view the culture of the African Diaspora as a dynamic, ethereal force. Through Afro Am, the lion will benefit from the telling of a new story.
