Donna Mitchell
Administrative Manager
Donna Edmonds Mitchell is a Rhode Island native and graduate of Johnson and Wales University with a degree in Business Administration. She is also a graduate of Bryant College’s Human Resources Certificate Program. Ms. Mitchell maintains an impressive record of training and participation in various Brown University’s Staff Training and Development Programs.
In March 2007, Donna received an award for her tremendous efforts as a team player during Academic Year 2006 for her contributions the Department of Africana Studies, and Rites and Reason Theatre in significant and meaningful ways.
Starting in September 2004 and ongoing, Ms Mitchell has participated in The MET School’s (Providence, RI) Mentorship Program which brings two (2) high school students interested in acquiring knowledge about the Africana diaspora and/or the Black Theatre experience on campus while providing each student with hands-on experience that coincides with their personal and college-bound interests.
In January 2003 she was a recipient of Brown University’s 20 Year’s Service Award. In 1993, Ms. Mitchell served on the University’s Search Committee for Director of its Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Office.
Ms. Mitchell is not only dedicated to the mission of Brown University and it’s Africana Studies Department and Rites and Reason Theatre; but also equally committed to her southeastern New England aboriginal communities. Proudly dedicated to researching and connecting the historical roots of her Native and African American ancestries, she has become a voice in these communities by sharing her own personal life stories through original works of poetry and short stories.
Ms. Mitchell is also a seasoned poet and storyteller with works published in the C.L.R. James Journal, The Radical Philosophy Journal, the Ethiomedia, and many local and national community newsletters and self-published magazines. She has also presented her Spoken Word works in such venues as the Boston Museum, the Isabelle Gardner Stewart Museum, the Norman Rockwell Museum, the University of Rhode Island-Providence Campus, the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Temple University, many local Native American PowWow gatherings and southeastern New England historical societies, private/public elementary and secondary schools as well as various arts organizations.
