My research has focused on developing and implementing interventions for HIV (+) individuals that will improve adherence to highly active antiretroviral therapy as well as encourage secondary prevention strategies. My research has focused on hard to reach populations such as those with active substance use and individuals leaving prison.

Biography

My research is in the area of medication adherence and secondary prevention in HIV(+) persons. I have a particular interest in working with hard to reach populations such as those with substance abuse disorders and indiviudals leaving prison. Most of my work has focused on developing and implementing interventions, such as modified directly observed therapy in this population.

In addition to my work with HIV infected individuals, I am the director of the Lyme Disease clinic at Rhode Island Hospital. At the clinic we diagnose and treat individuals with Lyme disease, as well as other tick borne illnesses such as babesiosis and ehrlichiosis.

Interests

My research has focused on the development and implementation of interventions that improve adherence to HIV medications among hard to reach populations. I have been involved in multiple pilot studies, as well as a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the effectiveness of modified directly observed therapy among active substance users. I am currently in the process of developing a protocol which will combine modified directly observed therapy with a secondary prevention intervention for HIV(+) individuals being released from prison.
