Biography

Born and raised in Switzerland, he studied Classics and German Studies at the University of Basel, the Freie Universität Berlin and the University of Michigan. His degrees (M.A., PhD) are from the University of Basel.

Previous to coming to Brown in 2001, he held different teaching and research positions in Basel, was a visiting scholar at Oxford University and a visiting scholar/instructor at the University of Amsterdam. He is an Associate Member of the Corpus Christi Seminar for the Study of Greek and Roman Antiquity, Oxford (1998-).

Interests

Homer, early Greek lyric poetry, ancient and modern literary criticism (in particular narratology) and papyrology (Menander).
